A North Carolina Christmas

Tyler and I made the decision to not travel back to Minnesota for Christmas this year and while it was sad to not be with our families, it was SO nice to have a quiet holiday with just our immediate family.  We kicked off our holiday fun with our annual Surf City Christmas tree lighting.

We couldn't find Meredith's hat while we were running out the door so Tyler grabbed one of his.

Saint Nicholas brought Meredith a book and a nativity scene.  I went back and forth on getting this nativity scene and I am so glad I did!  Meredith LOVED it and it helped her understand what we were celebrating at Christmas. We talked about baby Jesus's birthday all day long and even made him a pie and sang happy birthday on Christmas day.

Breakfast with Santa.  This is as close as she would get but she did tell him that she wanted him to bring her a toy for her baby.  Then after we left to get our pancakes she started crying because she wanted to sit on Santa's lap.

Since we weren't going home, family sent all of Meredith's gifts to her so we let her open some early to spread out the fun.  Also, we never buy her toys so it was going to be a lot and we wanted to space them out.

Polar Express day at the Children's museum.  We crafted, wrote letters to Santa, got hot chocolate, sat on Santa's lap, and road on the train.  Such a cute event.

We had to watch Santa for a long time to warm up and then eventually just threw her on his lap and jumped out the picture.  Still not a fan.

We went to dinner and the Enchanted Airlie Gardens with our friends, Tori and Colt.

And we met our third and final Santa of the season. Meredith didn't even want to look at this one but she still did manage to tell him that she wanted a toy.

Christmas weekend was gorgeous so we went on a walk around Serenity Point - the southern tip of Topsail Island.

Meredith in front of our tree.  You can see in the top left of the tree our elf, Freddy.  We went back and forth on if we should do this as well and we had so much fun with it.  We didn't do anything special besides moving him around but it was exciting to look for him every morning when Meredith came downstairs.

We hope we can remember this Christmas in the years to come and remember to slow down and plan some special time with just us.
